How to Play Boggle

Boggle is played on a 4×4 grid of lettered dice. Shake the virtual board, then race to find as many words as possible before the timer runs out.
Words must be at least 3 letters long. Each die can only be used once per word, and you can connect letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
The Qu tile counts as two letters (Q + U) — so a word like QUIET is 5 letters even though it uses only 4 dice.
Rules
3–4 letters = 1 point · 5 letters = 2 · 6 letters = 3 · 7 letters = 5 · 8+ letters = 11 points.
Duplicate words score once. Words are validated against a 47,000+ word English dictionary in real time.

History & Origins of Boggle
Boggle was created in 1972 by Allan Turoff and first sold by Parker Brothers; its 4×4 letter dice and three-minute timer made it a family word-game staple.
The dice idea echoes earlier letter-square puzzles, but Boggle’s “find as many words as you can from neighbouring letters” rule gave it endless replayability. Our online version keeps the classic timer and adds difficulty levels and a daily board.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Reusing the same letter cube twice in one word. Each die may be visited once per word.
- Forgetting diagonals count. Letters connect in all eight directions.
- Missing the Qu tile: it counts as Q+U and often unlocks long words.
- Submitting duplicates — each word scores once, so hunt for new finds.
Tips & Strategy
Scan for common prefixes (RE-, PRE-, UN-) and suffixes (-ING, -ED, -ER) — they unlock multiple words from one starting letter.
Start from the vowels. Every English word needs one, and vowel-heavy clusters branch in every direction.
Think in word families: find CAT, then look for CATS, SCAT, and -ING forms nearby to multiply your score.
Long words score disproportionately more — one 8-letter word (11 pts) beats eleven 3-letter finds.
