Mini Crossword Tips: Finish 5×5 Puzzles Fast

A 5×5 Mini looks tiny, but the same rules apply as a full crossword: every square locks in two answers at once.

1. Fill the easy crosses first

Short 3–5 letter answers share squares with longer ones. Solve a few obvious clues — often the ones near the middle — and their letters appear inside other answers automatically.

2. Treat each square as two answers

Every white square belongs to one Across and one Down word. When a letter works for both at once, the grid locks in fast; if a guess disagrees with a crossing clue you already solved, that letter is wrong.

3. Switch direction instead of forcing

Tab swaps between across and down. When a row is stuck, solve its column instead — crossing letters are the real engine of a mini puzzle.

4. Use Check and Hint as teachers

Check highlights wrong letters in red without revealing answers. Hint fills exactly one correct letter — use it, then ask why that square was forced.
